Retention Policies
Retention policies, also known as retention policies, are rules that determine how long data is kept in a database or storage system before being deleted.
It is crucial to properly size the retention policy window to ensure that data retention needs are met without unnecessarily using storage resources. A retention window that is too short could result in the loss of important data or violation of regulations, while a retention window that is too long could lead to excessive use of storage space and slow down system performance. Therefore, it is essential to carefully balance the duration of the retention policy based on business needs, industry regulations, and available storage capacity.
For the MAT web app, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of well-sized retention policy windows, as a window that is too short could result in insufficient data visualization on the web app, while a window that is too wide could lead to the EDGE device's disk filling up, causing malfunctions and the inability to record new data.
Within this page, users can view the sizes, expressed in days, of the various retention policies for each database on the EDGE device of the project.

In addition to viewing the information, the page allows users to manually modify information related to individual database retention policies.
To change the size of the policy cascade for all databases using it, users can use the text field related to the policy under consideration.

Alternatively, if they want to modify a retention policy for a specific database, they can do so using the text field related to that policy and that specific database.

At the end of the modifications, it is crucial to use the Save button to save the work done. If users are not satisfied with the new values set, they can use the Reset button to set the policies back to their original values.

Note that there are some minimum values for retention policies, so lower values cannot be specified.
